Self Care Sunday
Hello December!
It is officially holiday season as the end of the year is approaching faster than we expected.
As a student, this is the busiest time of the year.
I've got multiple projects going on, final exams coming up, busier work schedules, and a lot of Christmas shopping to do.
Although I love spending time with my dog, I knew I needed to get out of the house.
With so many things going on at once, I decided to take a self care day. Today, self care for me means grabbing a coffee and preparing myself to do some retail therapy and finish buying Christmas gifts.
Let's take you on my self care shopping trip.
I started off my self care day with a drink from Starbucks (basic, I know).
Typically, my go-to is an Iced Chai Latte with Sweet Cream Cold Foam, but instead I went for a Caramel Brûlée Latte (highly recommend!). This is one of Starbucks' Holiday drinks, meaning they are seasonal and are only available for a certain amount of time.
After I gave in to my caffeine addiction, I headed over to Winners and Marshalls which might as well be my second home. I never leave this place empty handed, it's a blessing and a curse. There is always a cute notebook, candle, or mug that I must buy. Here's me shamelessly admiring all the candles.
I was in heaven.
Winners had so many cute holiday gifts and decor for your home!
I came across these throw blankets pillows, and would've bought them if I didn't already have more than enough. The colours were all very warm and welcoming, the perfect touch to brighten up your space at home.
Next stop was Indigo. I always find that book stores bring a sense of calm and serenity. I love to see what new stationery and notebooks they have. Pro Tip: a lot of them go on sale around this time of year!
I was hoping to browse around and find a new good read, but I got easily distracted with the entire store out with holiday gifts and decorations. It really puts you into the holiday spirit seeing all the cute ornaments (which are also great gifts for yourself or others!)
Thankfully, I was able to finish buying all my Christmas gifts, and it was time for me to head back into the work I had ahead of me.
Even though it only spent a few hours out shopping and browsing through the stores, taking a moment to acknowledge yourself, taking a step back and learning to live in the moment, really does have a positive impact on your mental health.
Since all my classes are online this semester, and I also work remotely, it's easy to get swept up into staying locked in your home all day long. I'm really thankful for having my dog Jax, as he motivates me to get up and get some exercise and go on walks throughout the day, despite the cold winters that Toronto gets every year.
Here's a guide on how you can practice self care every day, and not just Sunday.
These ideas are steps that I choose to include in my daily routine, and I find that it's helped me grow as an individual.
